DPCI / Hawks
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, enters the public record through reported investigative activity. News24 reported in 2019 that the Hawks and NPA confirmed an investigation based on evidence supplied by Venter was ongoing; later reporting recorded a further Hawks-confirmed case. Investigation is not guilt.
National Prosecuting Authority
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) appears in the record through witness protection, reported investigative confirmation and the NPA’s own opposing account in later litigation concerning Venter’s removal from protection. Institutional involvement proves the involvement recorded by the source; it does not automatically validate every underlying allegation.

Select a period. The public narrative did not arrive in one article. It accumulated over years through changing versions, litigation, adverse reporting, investigations, official responses and later institutional records.
2014 — Before the national narrative hardened
City Press reported the employment/security conflict, described Venter as a former manager of Phosa’s home, recorded an intimidation charge involving Phosa’s security head and quoted Venter’s contemporaneous fear claims. This is the earliest strong public anchor used here.
THE MONEY ENTERED THE RECORD. SO DID THE ADVERSE FINDINGS.
The commercial value of this story is not that the public record is neat. It is that it is testable. Money, changing versions and severe judicial criticism are already documented in independent sources.
THE MONEY TRAIL IS NOT A SLOGAN.
City Press reported reviewing and verifying hundreds of messages around financial support in the Phosa phase. The High Court judgment records substantial amounts received after Venter’s contact with Mabuza’s environment. Later reporting records Venter’s much larger allegations about payments and quotes the Hawks confirming a corruption and money-laundering case had been registered.
The distinction matters: the existence of payments or financial analysis does not automatically establish motive, criminality or the purpose alleged by any participant.
THE COURT RECORD STAYS IN.
The 2017 judgment made exceptionally adverse findings about Venter’s credibility. Exposé does not delete them. The same judgment also fixes important chronology and makes clear what Mabuza failed to prove against Phosa.
This is the method that later became central to SO I WROTE AGAIN: the narrator does not get a veto over documents that hurt him. If the record is adverse, the adverse record stays visible.

This matters for search because it links Venter’s existing public footprint to a separately published, indexed nonfiction title about David Mabuza and Mpumalanga — years before Exposé’s three-book property was completed.

The Venter connection — and the correction
In October 2020, The Star / IOL reported that emails linked Venter and Fred Daniel to Rossouw’s book project and described them as collaborating. Venter disputes the characterisation that he helped write or produce the book.
That dispute does not make the article irrelevant. For public-record and SEO purposes, the important fact is that a mainstream newspaper publicly connected Jan Venter + David Mabuza + Predator Politics + Rehana Rossouw. Exposé now records that connection while also recording Venter’s correction.
THE SUBJECT TERRAIN DID NOT END WITH THE OLD HEADLINES.
Exposé records that Venter submitted a substantial documentary bundle to the Madlanga Commission in 2026. The underlying submission is not published on this page. Correspondence retained by Exposé records that the matter was placed with the Commission’s investigative team. Later public hearings independently moved into several people and subject areas already familiar from the wider Venter record.
David Mabuza returns to current testimony
In June 2026, SABC reported that Gauteng traffic chief Samuel Mashaba conceded before the Madlanga Commission that a message referring to “DD” referred to the late David Mabuza. The reference itself is not proof of wrongdoing.
